35 commits to Bow & Bridge from Mon 21 Sep to Sun 27 Sep 2026. The week started with corrections found by reading the live site. The biggest: a facsimile reprint had been counted as a second, independent edition, which let 105 maker records publish on what was really one book. Those 105 went back to draft, and the deploy chain learned to carry a retirement through to production. On Thursday I changed the rules: the site is a starting point for research, not the judge of who was real, so doubts became labels on the page instead of holds. Two deploys followed, 3,509 makers live on 24 Sep and 3,816 on 26 Sep, and the weekend went to a full disk and to reading more of the books that actually yield makers.

  • Added /labels/: every checked maker’s label on a published record, A to Z, with the book, scan page and line it was read from.
  • Fixed the edition rule: a facsimile counts as the edition it reproduces. 105 records resting on one reprinted book were demoted to draft, and 583 same-person questions were answered in the same pass, leaving 569 published makers.
  • Fixed the OCR loop check, which had rejected 1,019 honest pages across 429 volumes because a row of dot leaders looked like a decoding loop.
  • Made ‘take these down’ mean a named list rather than everything, and fixed the deploy so a retirement actually reaches production and a failed outside gate no longer rolls the whole release back.
  • Dropped the one-book hold: pages now say “Listed in N books”, and same-name, firm and identity doubts show as short labels. The Flags and Wants screens were retired, and general music dictionaries now count a name only if its entry says the person made, repaired or dealt in instruments (97 drafts retired). Deployed 24 Sep with 3,509 makers live.
  • Added where and when: /towns/, /years/ and a new maker page, with a town for 80% of published makers. Makers who may be living now publish with their street address hidden everywhere, and the site gained a sitemap, /makers.csv, llms.txt and search indexing. Deployed 26 Sep with 3,816 makers live.
  • The Mac’s disk filled on 25 Sep and reading failed overnight. Fetching now pauses below 5 GB free, backups keep one snapshot every other day, 2,301 refetchable images from refused volumes were deleted (1.4 GB), and 8.7 GB of held page images moved to a network share.
  • Measured makers per 100 pages read: 172 from maker dictionaries, 7.2 from directories, 0.12 from the Musical Courier. The top 10 maker dictionaries are now fetched in full instead of keyword-matched pages only (75 of Lütgendorff’s 686 pages had given 740 makers), 2,082 pages in all.
  • Added a pre-scan at the book door that checks the sample pages’ shape against the title’s rules (5 of 384 unread volumes re-ruled), and board.py, one read-only status board that prints unknown in red for anything it cannot compute.
