The community opened to the public with self-serve sign-up behind approval, members got a chat interface on the existing message store, and the site was redesigned twice in four days: first as a portal with Visit and Live Here doors, then as a ruled black-and-white newspaper front with a dateline masthead.
- Opened sign-up: a self-serve /register/ page with editor approval, passwordless login links, a members’ Messages badge in the utility bar, and a privacy note.
- Built member messaging as a chat UI on the existing direct-message store, with block, report and moderation, and a flag-gated daily digest.
- Marked every member-gated page uncacheable after the edge cache served logged-out copies to signed-in members.
- Events: sources now self-heal, four new calendars were added with a JSON-LD adapter and a public submit form, and an October date-range parsing bug was fixed.
- Redesigned the front: white ground, black ink, Times New Roman, a ruled editorial layout with a dateline masthead, then swept the whole site (games, alerts, weather chips, forms) onto the same design tokens.
- Mobile pass: eager-loaded the directory’s largest image as WebP, a 16px search input, 44px navigation buttons.
